Lisbon March 31-April 5, 2023

Had felt a tickle in my throat while walking around the Gulbenkian Museum and it slowly got worse as the day progressed.  It was a full blown cold with a sore throat, congestion and headache when I woke the next morning.  I spent the next three days in bed and my temperature finally broke on April 3rd.  Rita had gone out to the pharmacy to pick up cough syrup and nasal congestion pills for me as well as making me chicken noodle soup.  Thankfully, I started to feel a little better on April 4th, the day before we were to leave, but did not have the strength or desire to go out and sightsee.  Rita packed up our luggage as we had a 06:00 Uber pick-up to take us to the airport for our 08:35 departure to Frankfurt.   We went out for our last supper in Portugal at a lovely seafood restaurant called Sea Me, which was the sister restaurant of the Sea Me Next Door Tapas restaurant we had been to on our arrival in Lisbon.  Rita had a very tasty shrimp curry and I had a very tender grilled octopus with potatoes and kale. After dinner we headed back to our apartment as we had an early start in the morning.

Being sick and bedridden is definitely not the best way to end our trip to Portugal but it ensures we will be back as we really enjoyed our Lisbon neighborhood and the little of what we saw of this amazing city.  And after three years of waiting, we finally completed our tour of Portugal that we started in 2020.  The beautiful beaches, the historic towns, friendly people, amazing cuisine and excellent wines all make Portugal a place you want to come back to again and again.  Rita and I will definitely be back and are already planning our next visit in 2024.
