Camilo Beach

Woke up to overcast skies and drizzly rain this morning but the rain stopped and it started to clear up in the afternoon so we headed out for a walk along the cliffs to a new beach we had read about.  It was a bit windy and cool (17c) but the sun did finally show itself.  Cannot get enough of the spectacular natural beauty that surrounds Lagos.

Some of the many sandstone islands that were originally part of the shoreline from the cliff edge

Looking across at Rita sitting on a rocky outcropping with a tiny beach some 60m (200ft) below.

One of many small and secluded beaches created by the relentless pounding surf.

Spectacular views of the ocean at the top of the cliffs.  Rita watching a tourist boat passing through a natural archway created by waves eroding the soft sandstone.

The sun finally came out as we headed down the 200 steps to Praia do Camilo or Camilo beach.

Camilo beach consists of two small beaches that are connected through a natural archway.  The  surrounding cliffs act as a windbreak and the beach gets very warm.
