Beach to Beach
Woke up this morning to overcast skies and drizzling rain but it soon cleared up and the sun started to peak through the clouds. We went back to Porto de Mos beach as we noticed another cliff trail when we were there yesterday We checked it out on Google Maps and the trail was a little over 15km round trip and would take us from Porto de Mos beach to the small resort town of Luz. It was well worth the effort as the sun stayed with us most of the time.
We walked end to end on the stunning Porto de Mos Beach before hiking up to the top of the 50m (165ft) cliffs starting our journey to Luz.
Starting on our cliff walk and looking back at the expansive Porto de Mos Beach.
The Rocha Negro basalt headland was created from a volcanic eruption millions of years ago. The black granite carved its way through the much softer Algarve sandstone to the waters edge.
Looking down at the sandy beach in Luz from the this windy outlook just before making our way down from the cliffs into the resort town.
Luz is a small resort town that sits around this glorious, sandy bay. We walked to the end of the beach to admire this wonderful setting.
Before heading back we stopped at a waterfront cafe for cappuccino and Pasteis de Nata, a traditional Portuguese custard tart. It was absolutely divine, so I am sure the calorie count was way over the top
What goes down must go back up!! Starting on the trail out of Luz that takes us to the marker at the top of the cliff. A steep climb but apparently we had calories to burn.
The clouds came back as we were plodding our way to the top of the cliff. Thankfully, they did not last long and the sun came out again as we made our way back home.
